01-21-2014, 10:57 PM ; A little about me 1) I'm in my mid to late 20's and work for an oil company. Very likely will be relocated in the coming months. Also am finishing up a master's degree! 2) I have lived in Tulsa, OK since 2009. Love the area. It's like a smaller Austin- it has everything (just not in quantities or qualities of Austin) 3) I mostly grew up in Plano, TX. Nowhere near quite familiar with Houston as I am with Dallas. Houston is nothing like Dallas 4) My plan is to find a residence for one year then after that find a more permanent residence. You are too young to be buying in the next few years. You need to save up for a while. 5) I'm an active distance runner. There are plenty of places to run. With that, I'd truly appreciate feedback in these areas 1) Areas of Residence- I'd want an apartment that is between 1200-2000 a month in an area that's similar to an Addison or Lower Greenville in that it's not within walking distance of a downtown but is several miles to ten miles outside of it. Houston is just not laid out like Dallas. There is little partying or anything downtown other than businesses. Though Houston is trying to change that. 2) Area of Residence should be nearby young professionals- Not necessarily right in the middle of a night life area, hipster hangouts, or a college area, but an area that's within a few miles of these places. Midtown is in the middle of the night life and is where most of the young professionals in Houston live. The two other young professional areas are Heights and Montrose. I would live in a Montrose apartment if I were you. Expect rent to be 1200-1500 for a good complex. I would live off W. Dallas. There are several places there. It is also next to parks that have lots of running trails. 3) Area of Residence that does not require commuting hellish distances to work- I'd be working out of an area nearby IAH and in Sugar Land. Where I live now in Tulsa, I commute away from traffic in morning and afternoon rush hours and would like to continue that in Houston! IAH and Sugar Land are on opposite sides of town so you need a central location. Sugar Land is about a 30-60min commute from Montrose. IAH is about 30-60min if you take 59 or the toll road. It won't be a real bad commute. Everyone in the oil industry eats a decent commute. 4) Running communities that are social- I run through Fleet Feet which a franchise store. I know where Fleet Feet's are in Houston, but, I'd enjoy trying other active local clubs, formal groups that aren't solely focused on time improvement but balance with social activities. This Tulsa running group has become my primary social outlet (while I'm finishing a master's) and since I'm not religious, it's an outlet where I can find people within my age range that share an interest. There are plenty of running groups. Also check out Club Monkey and Houston Sports and Social Club. I don't know of any running group names because I hate running, but I have heard about some. I have lots of friends that do marathons. I'm eager to receive feedback and am very much looking forward to this next phase of my life (finishing master's, new city, new job, marriage)! You sure have it all planned out! You will find life throws you lots of curve balls. Just roll with it! Good luck and feel free to ask me about specific complexes in the areas I listed. I have friends that have lived in just about every complex here. ; 01-22-2014, 06:57 AM

In 1986, Ronald Reagan was president. "Electronic mail" was used primarily by universities and the military. The Berlin Wall was standing. The Euro did not exist. Many phones used rotary dials to enter numbers. An Apple Macintosh computer with 128 kilobytes of RAM sold for $5,500 (in 2015 dollars). 40 million music CDs were made and sold worldwide. That same year, a small group of people in Austin, Texas began a series of long discussions about the future of entertainment and media. The meetings...
