To avoid decomposition in acidic pH of the stomach, delayed-release capsules and delayed-release oral suspension (Prilosec ) contain enteric-coated granules of the drug; immediate-release capsules and immediate-release oral suspension (Zegerid) contain sodium bicarbonate to protect the drug. ; Swallow intact with a glass of water at least 1 hour prior to a meal. Do not use with any other liquid. Do not open capsules or mix the contents with food.
