POLK COUNTY, Iowa — A Polk County Detention Officer has been arrested for allegedly smuggling illegal drugs to an inmate inside the jail. ; Mario Antonio Rocha, 26, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon on four counts of possession of contraband in a correctional institution, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. ; During a last-minute news conference Tuesday night, Sheriff Kevin Schneider said the agency was alerted through a “tip” on Aug. 2 and an investigation was launched. ; “We are still conducting some more follow up on it, but at this time we believe that we have the main player and the only player involved in the situation,” said Schneider. “Make no mistake, I’m not proud of what happened here, but I am proud of the work that our sheriff’s office did to solve the problem, arrest the individual involved, and (of) the other 230 plus employees that work in the jail.”
