Colorado state Sen. Chris Hansen has been named the next CEO of La Plata Electric Association, according to the organization. Hansen was in Durango on Tuesday for his first day of work at the co-op. Hansen confirmed that he would resign his seat sometime in the coming months, likely the week of Jan. 9. The Democrat represents central and southeastern Denver in the state Senate and was just reelected with 84% of the vote. Hansen replaces former CEO Jessica Matlock, who left LPEA in February. ...
An electric cooperative wrangling with Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association over local control and getting off coal has issued a public pronouncement that it and fellow cooperatives still need the power supplier. Just not in the current form. Brighton-based United Power, which serves about 300,000 people along Colorado’s bustling Front Range, is Tri-State’s largest member in its four-state territory. United Power is also one of Tri-State’s most vocal critics. It has filed a lawsuit as well as complaints with state and federal ...
There’s an appealing list of guitarists, each known for their individualism, performing in Colorado in the coming days. Al Di Meola is an unquestioned six-string virtuoso, and he’s been enthralling jazz listeners with his lightning-fast technique since keyboardist Chick Corea introduced him to a wide audience as a member of the fusion group Return To Forever in 1974. Since then, he’s split time between acoustic and electric settings, both of which he successfully utilizes on his newest release, “Opus.” Di Meola will appear at Copper M ...

FORT COLLINS — The first full season of Steve Addazio’s tenure as head coach of the Colorado State Rams began with a thud Friday night at Canvas Stadium. ; The Rams, who went 1-3 in the COVID-shortened 2020 season, were generally manhandled by South Dakota State, a Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Divison I-AA) power. ; The Jackrabbits, who lost to Sam Houston State in the FCS national championship on May 16, rolled over the Rams 42-23 in a lightning-delayed affair that followed a fierce thunderstorm. ; “Obviously disappointed,” Addazio said. “We had an electric night here with one of largest crowds, opening-day crowds, and it was a heckuva an atmosphere. I appreciate the student body and all the fans. Obviously, I don’t feel like we played at the level we’re capable of playing at.”
