자극 접촉피부염은 누구라도 일정한 농도 이상의 자극에 노출되면 발생하는 것으로 대표적으로 주부습진, 기저귀 습진이 해당된다. 알레르기 접촉피부염은 정상인에서는 피부질환을 일으키지 않지만 원인이 되는 알레르겐 또는 항원에 감작된 사람에서 피부염이 유발되는 경우를 말한다.
